BROKEN GERMAN

By Tomer Gardi (Israel)
€ 17,50 / € 9 (red.)
Words, thoughts, metaphors, meanings, stories and people look for each other, find and lose each other again in the crowds of the city, in being, in significance and in language. Full of allusions, a plea for the diversity of idioms in the German language, for the infringement of rules, the non-standardised, the permanent search, for finding (oneself) and inventing oneself. At the 2016 Bachmann Award, Gardi’s work promptly set off a heated debate about whether “something like this” should even be allowed: to write in a foreign language and with imperfect expression.
